Opatija is the tourist centre of the Adriatic Sea, located in Kvarner Bay, at the foot of the mountain Učka. The surrounding area with numerous bays is known as the Riviera of Opatija, with coastal towns Lovran, Ika, Icici and Mošćenička Draga. In the past, it was often visited summer and winter resort for the Austrian-Hungarians royalty. At the meeting point of the continental and Mediterranean climate, dotted among forests and bays, are many luxury hotels, villas with swimming pools and private villas. Opatija is still a destination for domestic and foreign elites seeking luxury and elegance.

Promenade ("Lungomare")

The Promenade or "Lungomare" is widely known 12 kilometre long walkway along the rocky shore, which connects Volosko, Opatija, Ičići, Ika and Lovran. Its construction began in 19th st. It also connects the famous Opatija park, a horticultural monument with numerous species of plants, as well as Angiolina villa which is now the Croatian Museum of Tourism. The Sculpture "Girl with a seagull" on the promenade is a distinctive visual element of Opatija. The Opatija Riviera also has numerous beaches, some of them are holders of the Blue Flag - Beach Slatina in the Opatija, Kvarner beach and Peharovo beach. Blue Flag guarantees the purity of the sea, as well as a wide variety of content that the beach must have.

Lovran and Icici are quieter destinations with the preserved old town core and having numerous villas along the coast and marinas.

Active holidays

Kvarner Bay offers a variety of sea related activities: from sailing to diving at attractive locations on the nearby islands of Cres and Lošinj having a rich marine flora and fauna, exploration of the sunken wrecks of ships, excursions on boats. Cycling enthusiasts have a number of circular routes available.

Attractive climbing grounds of Mošćenička Draga is a must for climbers, providing 64 climbing routes of various difficulty, but there are also numerous educational and botanical trails for the less demanding. Učka mountain top Vojak has a short runway for those who like paragliding and hang gliding.
