Rab Island has been the ideal place for rest and enjoyment for many years. It is favoured by a mild Mediterranean climate and lush vegetation, indented coastline with the sunny and clear blue sea, making the island of Rab attractive since ancient times. It has been awarded the title of the best tourist destination in the Adriatic several times. The inhabitants of Rab have perfected what they can offer to the tourists over 120 years of tourism on Rab.
The largest town and port is Rab and the island has several resorts: Lopar, Mundanije, Supetarska Draga, Kampor, Palit, Barbat and Banjol. The island has an abundance of numerous rocky and sandy beaches, and one of the most famous beaches on the Adriatic Sea is located in Lopar. The forests of black pine and Mediterranean oak are spread over numerous walkways and bicycle paths covering the entire island.
The island of Rab is an island of numerous cultural events, with deep historical roots dating back to ancient times, when the island of Rab was recognized as Felix Arba - Happy Rab. Throughout history it has managed to preserve its buildings, monasteries, churches, town ramparts and its specific and easily recognizable four bell towers. All of the cultural events, open painting galleries, musical evenings, knights tournaments and a well known "Rapska fjera" are held in the historic centre of narrow stone streets winding around the main square of St. Kristof with its petrified shepherdess Draga of Rab.
A break in a walk around the town is best spent sampling its Mediterranean cuisine, with its strong taste of wild Mediterranean herbs, garlic and olive oil, combined with the benefit of fresh of vegetables and seafood, prepared simply. The everyday diet of the islanders is provided for the culinary delight of the tourists - light soups from fresh seasonal vegetables, well known Rab lentils, cooked or grilled fresh fish, meats braised in a wine or prosecco sauce, gnocchi and pasta.
A special place among the sweet dishes occupy traditional sweets Rab cake ("rapska torta") and fritters ("fritule"), taken with a glass of local brandy ("rakija") infused with fragrant herbs, honey and lemon rind.
